Biblical Understanding based on the Record of Scripture
Is your bible study effective? Is your prayer effective? Is your fasting effective? Sometimes when we study - we don't understand. Sometimes when we pray, it seems as if God does not hear. Sometimes when we fast, we are no closer to God at the end than at the beginning. It might even be that we are wasting our time.
In James 5:16 we see that the "effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."
